An in-person 3 hour shoot along with a 2 hour private mentoring session custom designed for what YOU feel you most need to work on. You will shoot alongside me – see how I set up the shoot and how I pose and interact with clients, and I will give you pointers and constructive criticism on how to improve (in a gentle way – trust me, I’m a teacher).
My approach towards mentoring is the same as my approach to photography: it’s all about the experience. Your mentoring session will be tailored to what will benefit you, based on your specific needs. This session is designed for advanced photographers who are looking to improve their photography and business. We’ll have a chat prior to our session so I have a sense of what you’re looking for and to ensure we make the most of the day. I want you to leave the day feeling inspired and confident!
Meet your mentor…
For the past 11 years, I have managed a photography business. I specialize in studio and location portraits, including newborn and maternity portraiture, professional head shots and women’s glamour. I shoot with a Canon EOS 5D Mark III in my home studio that doubles as a cattle farm (my husband would argue it’s a cattle farm that doubles as a home studio). Prior to being a photographer, I taught elementary school for 8 years and in my spare time, I enjoy being active – which usually includes running around after my children (typically followed by wine and editing).
Much of my learning has been through mentoring workshops with numerous award winning Australian and International photographers. Some of the most valuable information I have learned in photography has come from these mentoring sessions, and I am eager to return the favour.
Note: *** I only accept photographers living outside of a 150km exclusion zone from my studio address Kingston, Ontario.
- Own and understand DSLR camera usage and be comfortable shooting in Manual Mode
- Basic knowledge of aperture, shutter speed and ISO settings.
- Basic knowledge of Photoshop
What to expect:
- 9:30am (approx.) start at my fun and beautiful home studio in Kingston, Ontario.
- Model arrives at 10am. Interactive observation of my typical workflow during a session.
- You will have the opportunity to capture your own images, and I will (again, gently) provide suggestions and coaching.
- Provided: Light lunch and refreshments (anything from tea, to wine, to smoothies – whatever floats your boat!)
- Mentoring on editing and post-processing.
- The day concludes around 4pm but your support from me does not necessarily end here! I offer continued support after our session, you can always reach out to me with questions.
During the session we cover anything you wish to learn about, and I will pass on some secrets of the trade in order to help you grow and succeed (and to help you save time on finding templates, suppliers, etc on your own). You will be able to use all of the images you take on the day within your own portfolio with mention of Kaufmann Photography on social media. Post-mentoring session, you will be added to a Facebook group with all past attendees.
The day starts around 9:30am with your arrival at my studio, when we will do a quick overview of the day over coffee. Our model is scheduled to arrive around 10:00am, and the fun begins! I will lead you through my typical workflow, and we will shoot together. Throughout the session, we will cover posing and lighting set-ups, and there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions along the way. You will have the opportunity to capture your own images of each set-up. We usually finish working with our model around 1pm, followed by a light lunch and refreshments (anything from water to wine… mentee’s choice!). After lunch, we download the files from the session and edit with Lightroom and Photoshop. We can discuss other topics during this time as well – I am flexible! The day concludes around 4pm but your support from me does not necessarily end here. I offer continued support and am available to answer any questions you may have or if you just need me to refresh you on anything that we covered during that day, I am here to help!
